We specialise in making sewing machine cabinets, cupboards, and tables. Using in-depth industry knowledge, we design furniture to our customers’ requirements – empowering us to offer more than flat-pack solutions.

Before we can help, we’ll need to know what equipment you’ll be using. Here are a few tips designed to show you how to choose a sewing machine.

1. How much can you afford to spend?

Before shopping for a brand new sewing machine, what can you afford? Once you’ve set a budget, you can manage your expectations and reduce research time. That’s not to say you have to pay more for high-end machines – as plenty of top manufacturers offer high-quality items at reasonable prices. Once you’ve found what you need, our team can design a foldaway sewing cabinet or another bespoke item to your requirements.

2. What features should your sewer have?

Once you’ve set your budget, you’ll need to choose a machine compatible with your aims. One factor to think about is the types of stitches needed. There are two main types: (i) straight; and (ii) zigzag (both of which come as standard, no matter what your cost ceiling is). If you want more stitches – like blind hem or stretch – you’ll usually pay more.

3. Is manual or computer-operated preferable?

Both come armed with a unique set of benefits and there’s no such thing as a wrong choice. It comes down to personal preference. Mechanical machines weigh less, require minimal upkeep, and are long-lasting. Computerised sewers create flawless stitches every time and settings can be changed easily via a touch screen.
